IITM BS Exam Dates for the May 2027 Term (DS and ES)

The May 2027 term starts on Friday, 4 June 2027, and ends with the end term exam on Sunday, 5 September 2027. DS and ES share every date, including a rare Thursday programming quiz on 22 July 2027.

The two tables are the same. The Thursday slot appears in both handbooks, so it is not a DS only or ES only quirk.

What each exam is

• Quiz 1 (11 July): an in-person quiz on weeks 1 to 4. All your courses are in one sitting: 2 hours for one or two courses, 3 hours for three, 4 hours for four.
• Quiz 2 (8 August): the same format, now on weeks 1 to 8. The Quiz 1 and Quiz 2 guide shows how both scores count.
• Programming quizzes (22 and 25 July, then 22 and 29 August): OPPE 1 and OPPE 2, only for courses with a programming exam. Read the OPPE explainer if you are unsure whether yours has one.
• End term (5 September): 1.5 hours for each course, written in person.

How to plan this term

• Quiz 1 is 37 days after the start. June is your main time to build a base.
• Programming quiz 1 day 1 is only 11 days after Quiz 1, and it is a Thursday. If you work or attend college, apply for leave now. Day 2 is Sunday, 25 July, but the handbook does not say who gets which day.
• You then get 14 days between the last programming quiz 1 day and Quiz 2.
• The last month is dense. Programming quiz 2 falls on 22 and 29 August, and the end term follows on 5 September. That is three exam Sundays in a row, so finish end term revision notes by mid August.

Common questions

Why is one programming quiz on a Thursday?

The handbook does not give a reason. It simply lists Thursday, 22 July 2027, and that date is a Thursday. Confirm it again closer to the term.

I missed the January 2027 end term. When is my make-up?

It is held with this term's end term on 5 September 2027. This applies only if you missed the end term alone and take the make-up in the very next term.

I live outside India. What extra do I pay for these exams?

Students who write exams from abroad pay a facilitation fee on top of the course fee. It is Rs 2,000 for Quiz 1, Rs 2,000 for Quiz 2, and Rs 2,000 for the end term with one course or Rs 4,000 with more. The fee can vary by country.
