IITM BS Exam Dates for the September 2026 Term (DS and ES)

The September 2026 term of the IITM BS degree starts on Friday, 2 October 2026. The end term exam is on Sunday, 10 January 2027, and DS and ES students have the same dates this term.

DS exam dates for the September 2026 term

The handbook calls the first programming quiz "day 1", but lists no day 2 this term. So plan for one date, 22 November 2026.

ES exam dates for the September 2026 term

What each exam is

• Quiz 1: an in-person, proctored quiz in the exam city you chose. It tests weeks 1 to 4 of each course.
• Quiz 2: the second in-person quiz, on weeks 1 to 8. This term it falls on a Saturday.
• Programming quizzes: the programming exams, called OPPE 1 and OPPE 2 in the grading rules. They matter only for courses that have one. See how OPPE works.
• End term exam: the final in-person exam, 1.5 hours for each course. To sit for it, your assignment average must meet the minimum and you must have written at least one quiz. See the end term rules.

How to plan this term

• You get 44 days, a little over six weeks, before Quiz 1. Use October to stay on top of weekly assignments.
• Programming quiz 1 is just one week after Quiz 1. Finish your coding practice before 15 November.
• Quiz 2 is only 20 days after Quiz 1, and on a Saturday. If you have college or work that day, ask for leave early.
• After Quiz 2 you get 15 days before programming quiz 2 starts on 20 December.
• The last programming quiz day is 3 January 2027, just after New Year. The end term is one week later, so keep that week for revision, not travel.
• A course can be dropped only within 4 weeks of the term start, so around 30 October 2026. Confirm the exact cut-off with support.

Common questions

Is Quiz 2 really on a Saturday in the September 2026 term?

Yes. Both handbooks list Quiz 2 on Saturday, 5 December 2026, and the weekday is correct. Most other exams this term are on Sundays, so check this one twice.

I just cleared the qualifier. Do I still have to write Quiz 1?

In your first term after the qualifier, your qualifier score counts as Quiz 1 for Foundation courses. You may still write Quiz 1 on 15 November 2026, and then the better score is used. More in how Quiz 1 and Quiz 2 count.

If I miss the end term on 10 January 2027, when can I write it?

If you miss only the end term, you can take a make-up at the next term's end term, which is 9 May 2027. It costs Rs 1,000 per Foundation course and Rs 2,000 per Diploma or Degree course. You get this chance only once.

Why are the two programming quiz 2 days two weeks apart?

The handbook does not say. It lists 20 December 2026 and 3 January 2027 with no exam on the Sunday between them. It also does not say who writes on which day, so keep both free.
