IITM BS Exam Dates for the January 2027 Term (DS and ES)

The January 2027 term starts on Friday, 5 February 2027. The end term exam is on Sunday, 9 May 2027, and the DS and ES handbooks list the same dates for this term.

Every ES date matches the DS date above, so students in either programme can use one calendar.

What each exam is

• Quiz 1 (14 March): your first in-person, proctored quiz, written in the exam city you picked at registration. It covers weeks 1 to 4.
• Programming quiz 1 (27 and 28 March): the first OPPE, spread over a Saturday and a Sunday. The handbook does not say which course goes on which day.
• Quiz 2 (11 April): the second in-person quiz. It covers weeks 1 to 8, so Quiz 1 topics come back.
• Programming quiz 2 (25 April and 2 May): the second OPPE, again over two days. What OPPE is explains who writes it.
• End term (9 May): the final exam of the term, 1.5 hours per course.

How to plan this term

• The drop window closes 4 weeks after the start, so around 5 March 2027. That is before Quiz 1. Decide on your load from your early assignment scores, not quiz marks. How dropping works has the deduction amounts.
• From 14 March to 25 April there is an exam about every two weeks. Use the first week of each gap to catch up and the second week to revise.
• The last three Sundays of the term are all exam days: 25 April, 2 May and 9 May. Make your end term notes before 25 April, because you get only one week after the last programming quiz day.
• Sunday, 18 April 2027 is the only exam-free Sunday between Quiz 2 and the end term. Treat it as a revision day.

Common questions

I missed the September 2026 end term. Is my make-up in this term?

Yes, if you missed only the end term. The make-up is written at the next term's end term, which here is 9 May 2027. The fee is Rs 1,000 per Foundation course or Rs 2,000 per Diploma or Degree course. See make-up exam rules.

Can I skip Quiz 1 and write only Quiz 2?

You can, but it is risky. A missed quiz scores 0, and there is no make-up quiz. You must write at least one of the two quizzes to sit for the end term, so Quiz 2 on 11 April 2027 becomes your last chance.

Do I need to keep both programming quiz 1 days free?

Yes, until your own schedule is out. The handbook lists Saturday, 27 March and Sunday, 28 March 2027 but does not say who writes on which day.
