IITM BS Exam Dates for the January 2030 Term (DS and ES)

What each exam is

Quiz 1 (10 March): an in-person quiz that tests weeks 1 to 4.
Programming quiz 1 (25 and 26 March): OPPE 1, on a Monday and a Tuesday this term.
Quiz 2 (7 April): the second in-person quiz. It tests weeks 1 to 8.
Programming quiz 2 (20 and 28 April): OPPE 2, on a Saturday and then a Sunday eight days later. What OPPE is explains which courses have it.
End term (12 May): the final exam, 1.5 hours for each course.

How to plan this term

Quiz 1 comes 37 days in, on 10 March.
Programming quiz 1 is on two weekdays, 15 and 16 days after Quiz 1. If you are in college or at work, ask for leave for both days as soon as the term starts.
Quiz 2 on 7 April comes 12 days after the second programming quiz 1 day.
Programming quiz 2 is not a normal weekend pair. Day 1 is Saturday, 20 April, and day 2 is Sunday, 28 April.
You get 14 days between 28 April and the end term on 12 May. Sunday, 5 May is free, so use it for a timed practice paper.

Common questions

Are the programming quiz 1 dates really a Monday and a Tuesday?

Yes. The handbook lists Monday, 25 March and Tuesday, 26 March 2030, and those weekdays are correct. Most programming quiz days fall on weekends, so this term is unusual.

I missed the September 2029 end term. When is my make-up?

It is at this term's end term on 12 May 2030. You can use this make-up only once, and only in this term.

What if I miss a programming quiz this term?

The handbook has separate repeat rules for a missed OPPE. In some cases you get an I grade and write only the OPPE in the next term. That costs Rs 1,000 for a Foundation course and Rs 2,000 for a Diploma or Degree course. In other cases you repeat the whole course. See repeating a course.
