IITM BS Exam Dates for the September 2027 Term (DS and ES)

The September 2027 term starts on Friday, 1 October 2027. Its end term exam is on Sunday, 9 January 2028, and the dates are the same for DS and ES.

ES exam dates for the September 2027 term

ES students get exactly the same nine rows. This is the first term in the table where programming quiz 2 has three days.

What each exam is

• Quiz 1 (7 November 2027): an invigilated quiz at a centre in your chosen city, based on weeks 1 to 4.
• Programming quiz 1 (27 and 28 November): the first OPPE, over one weekend.
• Quiz 2 (12 December): the second invigilated quiz, based on weeks 1 to 8.
• Programming quiz 2 (19 December, 26 December and 2 January 2028): the second OPPE, spread over three Sundays. See the OPPE guide for what these exams test.

How to plan this term

• Quiz 1 comes 37 days after the start.
• The gap from Quiz 1 to Quiz 2 is five weeks, longer than in most terms. Programming quiz 1 sits in the middle of it, 20 days after Quiz 1.
• From 12 December 2027 to 9 January 2028 there is an exam every Sunday: five Sundays in a row. Christmas and New Year fall inside this stretch, so plan family travel for before 12 December or after 9 January.
• Only one week separates the last programming quiz day and the end term. Start end term revision in the second half of November, before the December run begins.

Common questions

Do I need to keep all three programming quiz 2 days free?

Yes, for now. The handbook lists 19 December, 26 December and 2 January but does not say which course or student gets which day. Once your own schedule is out, you can free the other dates.

What if one of these dates clashes with an NPTEL exam?

IITM BS exams, web-enabled MTech exams and some NPTEL exams can fall on the same day. The handbook says it is your job to check for clashes before you register, and no special arrangement will be made. Read what to do about exam clashes.

I will miss Quiz 1 on 7 November 2027. Can I still pass?

You get 0 for that quiz, and there is no make-up quiz. You can still sit for the end term if you write Quiz 2 on 12 December and meet the assignment rule. Your course grading document shows how much each quiz weighs.

When is the make-up for a missed May 2027 end term?

It is this term's end term, on 9 January 2028. You get the make-up only once, and only in the term right after the one you missed.
