IITM BS Exam Dates for the May 2028 Term (DS and ES)

The May 2028 term starts on Friday, 9 June 2028, and the end term exam is on Sunday, 10 September 2028. DS and ES students share all of these dates.

What each exam is

• Quiz 1 (16 July): a proctored quiz you attend in person. Its syllabus is weeks 1 to 4.
• Programming quiz 1 (29 and 30 July): OPPE 1, over a Saturday and a Sunday.
• Quiz 2 (20 August): the second in-person quiz. Its syllabus is weeks 1 to 8.
• Programming quiz 2 (27 August and 3 September): OPPE 2. It applies only to courses that have a programming exam, as the OPPE guide explains.
• End term (10 September): 1.5 hours for each course. With 4 courses, that means two sessions of 3 hours each.

How to plan this term

• Quiz 1 comes 37 days in, and programming quiz 1 follows 13 days later.
• Then comes the longest gap between two exams this term: 21 days from 30 July to Quiz 2 on 20 August. Use it to clear pending assignments and to start short notes for the end term.
• Quiz 2 is late this term. After it, every Sunday has an exam: 20 August, 27 August, 3 September and 10 September. That is four exam Sundays in a row.
• You get only three weeks from Quiz 2 to the end term. If four courses feel like too much for this pace, read how many courses to take each term before you register.

Common questions

Why is the gap between Quiz 2 and the end term so short?

The handbook does not explain it. In the January 2028 term, Quiz 2 came four weeks before the end term. This term Quiz 2 is on 20 August and the end term on 10 September, so the gap is 21 days.

Can I write this term's exams in a different city from last term?

Yes. At registration you pick two cities, and they can differ from earlier terms. You can even choose a different set of cities for each quiz and the end term. On exam day, go only to the centre on your hall ticket, as the exam centre policy explains.

I missed the January 2028 end term. When is my make-up?

It is held with this term's end term on 10 September 2028. The make-up is allowed only once, in the term right after the one you missed.

Do DS and ES students write on the same days?

The dates in both handbooks are the same for this term. Your own exam days still depend on your courses, especially for the programming quizzes.
