Switching From IITM BS Electronic Systems to Aeronautics

The ES student handbook has a short section called "ES to AE Switch". It names six ES batches that have a documented switch process, and it links to official slides and a "switch concept flow" sheet for each group. The rules themselves are not written in the handbook text. They are in those linked files. The handbook also uses only the short form "AE" and does not spell out the programme name in this section, so read the slides to see exactly what you would be switching to.

Which batches the switch covers

The batch "codes" work like this. Each switch sheet has one tab per batch code. The handbook asks you to open the tab that matches your batch number. For group 2, the codes 25f3 and 26f1 sit next to the Sep 2025 and Jan 2026 batches.

The two groups have separate slides and separate sheets. Make sure you open the set for your own group.

What the handbook does not say

The handbook section is only a list of batches and links. It does not state:

• who in these batches is eligible, such as any credit or grade condition
• the deadline or window to apply
• whether there is a fee
• which ES courses or credits carry over
• whether you can switch back to ES later
• whether batches from May 2026 onwards can switch

Some of this may be in the slides or the recording. Do not rely on posts or chats from other students for these details. Go by the official files for your batch.

How to check if the switch applies to you

1. Find the term you joined ES in. That is your batch.
2. Check the table above. If your batch is not in either group, the handbook has no switch material for you.
3. Open the ES handbook, go to section 29.1, and open the slides for your group.
4. Open the switch concept flow sheet and go to the tab for your batch code.
5. If you are in group 2, also watch the recording linked there.
6. If something is unclear, write to the ES support team. See IITM BS support and escalation for how to raise a ticket.

Common questions

I joined ES in May 2026. Can I switch?

The handbook does not list the May 2026 batch or any later batch for the switch. It does not say that the switch is closed either. Ask support directly.

Where exactly are the switch slides?

They are linked inside section 29.1 of the ES student handbook, under "ES to AE Switch". Each group has a "PPT link" and a "Switch concept flow" link. Group 2 also has a "Record link".

Will my ES grades move to the new programme?

The handbook text does not say. If this matters to you, check the switch concept flow sheet for your batch. That sheet is where the handbook sends you for batch details.
