How to Update Your Name, Date of Birth or Photo in IITM BS

You can fix your full name, date of birth or photograph in the IITM BS student dashboard. The option opens in a window after term registration is complete. Each change needs a proof document. For a name, upload your Class 12 marksheet or your highest degree certificate. For a date of birth or photo, use the ID card you gave in your application form.
This works the same way for Data Science and Electronic Systems students.
When you can update your profile
The profile update window opens after the term's registration is completed. You make the change yourself in the dashboard, under the profile update tab. The handbook links a reference PDF that shows where this tab is.
The handbook does not say how long the window stays open. Watch for the notice after registration closes and make your change early in the window.
What proof each change needs
| What you want to change | Proof to upload |
|---|---|
| Full name | Class 12 (or equivalent) marksheet, or the degree certificate of your highest education |
| Date of birth | A scan of the ID card you gave in your application form |
| Photograph | The ID card you gave in your application form |
For date of birth and photo, the proof must be the same ID card you used when you applied. If that card has old or wrong details, the handbook does not say what to do. Raise a support ticket in that case.
Why getting this right matters
The handbook says accurate profile details are needed for your academic records, your certificates and other official communication. A mistake in your name or date of birth can carry into all of these. So check your profile at least once, early in the programme, and fix anything wrong in the next window.
Steps to update your profile
- Wait until the term's course registration is complete. The course registration steps explain that part.
- Log in to your student dashboard and open the profile update tab.
- Choose the field you want to change: full name, date of birth or photograph.
- Enter the correct detail.
- Upload the proof from the table above.
- Submit the change within the window.
Other photos you may be asked for
The profile photo is not the only photo the programme collects. Do not mix them up:
- Exit form: when you leave with a certificate, you upload a professional photo with a white or blue background in the exit form. See exiting and getting your original certificate.
- ES degree level: Electronic Systems students submit a formally dressed photo for the final certificate during their first term at the degree level.
Details for each come from the programme team at the time.
Fields not listed
The handbook lists only three editable fields: full name, date of birth and photograph. It does not mention changing other details. For anything else, raise a ticket through the support and escalation process.
Common questions
Can I change my name using my Aadhaar card?
The handbook lists only two proofs for a name change: your Class 12 or equivalent marksheet, or the degree certificate of your highest education. An ID card is not listed for name changes. Ask support if neither document works for you.
Can I update my profile before I register for the term?
No. The handbook says the window opens after term registration is completed.
I missed the window. Can I still fix a wrong name?
The handbook describes a window each term after registration. So the simplest option is to use the next term's window. If a certificate or letter is due soon, raise a support ticket.
Does a profile change affect my medical certificate or POSH status?
The handbook does not link them. It only says correct profile details matter for records, certificates and official communication. Read the medical certificate rule as well.
