IITM BS Medical Certificate Submission: Why It Matters

Every IITM BS student must submit a medical certificate in the format the programme gives. This rule started from the September 2025 term and applies to both Data Science and Electronic Systems. The form link is e-mailed to you after the term starts. If you do not submit it, the programme office will not give you a bonafide certificate, letters of support, placement support or any other official letter.

What the rule says

The medical certificate is part of the document requirements of the programme. The main points:

• It is compulsory for all students.
• It must be in the prescribed format provided by the programme. A random doctor's note in some other format is not what is asked for.
• The requirement was introduced from the September 2025 term.
• The form link is sent to you by e-mail after the term begins.

In the DS handbook, this sits under "Mandatory submission by students", a section updated on 24 July 2026. The ES handbook has the same text.

What you lose if you do not submit it

The handbook lists four kinds of support that stop:

A bonafide certificate is an official letter that confirms you are a student of the programme. If your medical certificate is missing, you cannot get one. See how to apply for a transcript or bonafide certificate.

What the handbook does not say

The handbook lines on this rule are short. They do not say:

• What tests or details the certificate must include.
• Whether it must be signed by a particular kind of doctor.
• The last date to submit it.
• Whether you must submit it again every year.

When to do it

Do it as soon as the link arrives. You may need a bonafide certificate or a letter at short notice. Bonafide certificates are issued only on Thursdays. If your medical certificate is also pending, the wait only gets longer.

Other compulsory items

Common questions

I joined before September 2025. Do I still need to submit it?

The handbook says the requirement started from the September 2025 term and that it is compulsory for all students. It does not exempt older batches. Submit it when you get the link.

Can I submit a medical certificate in my own format?

The handbook asks for a certificate in the prescribed format provided by the programme. Use that format so it is accepted.

Does a missing medical certificate stop course registration?

The handbook does not say it blocks registration. It says you lose support like letters, bonafide certificates and placement support. POSH training is the item that blocks registration.
