IITM BS Mandatory POSH Training: What It Is and Deadlines

Every IITM BS student, in Data Science and in Electronic Systems, must complete a training course called "POSH: Becoming Gender Sensitive". You open it with your student e-mail ID. If you do not finish it, you will not be allowed to register for courses in the next term. The handbook does not give a fixed date. The block applies from the term after the course is made available to you.

What the POSH training is

POSH is short for Prevention of Sexual Harassment. The IITM BS programme has made this training compulsory for all students of all its programmes. The handbook says it is part of the institute's commitment to a safe and respectful learning space for everyone.

The course title is "Becoming Gender Sensitive". The handbook treats it as a condition you must meet to keep registering. It does not mention any marks or credits for it.

How to access it

1. Log in with your student e-mail ID, not your personal e-mail.
2. Open the POSH module link given in the "Mandatory POSH Training" section of your handbook. It opens on the programme's course portal.
3. Go through the module and complete it.

If the link does not open with your student ID, raise a support ticket. Do this well before the registration window, so there is time to fix it.

What is the deadline?

The handbook does not name a date. Here is what it does say. Students who have not completed the training cannot go ahead with course registration in the following term. This applies from the point when access to the course was given to you.

So your practical deadline is the start of the next registration window. Finish it well before that.

The DS handbook section was updated on 6 April 2026. The ES handbook has the same rule.

Why it matters for registration

Registration is how you stay active in the programme. If you cannot register, you lose a term. That lost term still counts toward your level's time limit and checkpoints. Common questions

Is the POSH training only for new students?

No. The handbook says it is compulsory for all students of all programmes, not only for new batches.

Can I do it with my personal e-mail ID?

The handbook asks you to open the course with your student e-mail ID. It does not mention the personal ID for this, so use the student ID.

Do I get marks or credits for POSH?

The handbook does not mention any credits or marks for it. It only describes POSH as a compulsory step that is linked to registration.

I finished it but registration is still blocked. What should I do?

Raise a ticket on the Student Support Portal and mention that you completed the module. If you get no reply within 24 hours, follow up on the same ticket.
