IIT Degrees Without JEE: Where the IITM BS Fits

Yes, you can earn an IIT degree without JEE. IIT Madras runs four online BS programmes that you enter through a qualifier: Data Science and Applications, Electronic Systems, Aeronautics and Space Technology, and Management and Data Science. Other IITs have also started online or hybrid bachelor's programmes. We have not verified their fees or rules, so use the checklist below to compare them yourself.
The four IIT Madras online BS programmes

These are the official fees for general category students, before any waiver. All four need 142 credits for the BS. Read more on the newer two in Aeronautics and Space Technology and Management and Data Science.
How you get in without JEE
For all four, the regular route is the qualifier:
- Apply and pay the application fee, Rs 4,000 for general category students.
- Study four weeks of content in four courses and submit weekly assignments.
- If your assignment scores are high enough, write the in-person qualifier exam.
- In DS, ES and MG, a general category student needs at least 40% in each course and a 50% average. AE uses the same four courses as ES, so check its own cut-off table.
It is not a rank race. Everyone who crosses the cut-offs qualifies. You can apply once you have passed Class 12, or after your Class 11 final exams, but you join only after passing Class 12. See how the qualifier works.
JEE is only a shortcut. If you qualified to appear for JEE Advanced, you can skip the qualifier and start the Foundation level. The DS page says the current year's JEE Advanced, and the AE and MG pages say 2025 or 2026. JEE Main scores alone are not listed as a route. See JEE entry.
What all four have in common
- The content is online. Quizzes and exams are held in person at centres in India and abroad.
- You can exit at several levels with a certificate for the level you finished.
- The diploma and degree are awarded by IIT Madras.
Other IITs' online degrees
Other IITs now offer their own online or hybrid bachelor's programmes open to students without JEE. Their fees, structure, exam mode and admission rules are their own. We have not verified them, so we do not list them. Read each programme's page on that IIT's own website, not a list article or a coaching site.

Our view
Do not rank online IIT programmes by brand or by headlines. Put each one through the same questions and pick the one whose rules fit your life, money and subjects. Where a programme has no outcome data yet, treat its results as unknown, not as good or bad.
Common questions
Is a degree earned without JEE a real IIT degree?
For the IITM BS, the degree is awarded by IIT Madras. The ES FAQ says IITs are created under an Act of Parliament, can confer degrees, and do not need UGC approval. See is the IITM BS a real IIT degree.
Is the IITM BS the same as an IIT BTech?
No. The entry route, study mode, degree name and placement system are all different. See IITM BS vs an IIT BTech.
Which of the four IIT Madras programmes is easiest to get into?
All four use a qualifier with fixed cut-offs, not a rank list. DS, ES and MG list the same general category cut-offs. What differs most is the subject rule: ES and AE need Physics and Maths in Class 12, while DS and MG do not.
